Practicalities / FAQ
My -What’s the first step?
If you’re thinking about working with me, the first step is to book a free 30-minute Discovery Session where you can get a feel for my work and ask questions to help us decide if we are a good fit.
You can book it here via Calendly. You will be sent a Zoom link to join at the appointed time.
What happens after that?
If we decide to work together, I will send you the contract and a questionnaire to fill out. We will then book an initial session where we will go over the reasons that brought you to therapy, your history, current situation and together set intentions for our work together. This is also a time to establish the terms of the therapeutic container, including confidentiality, boundaries, holidays, timekeeping, etc.
Once we have agreed on the terms of our contract, we will set a time to meet on a weekly basis.
How much does it cost?
My standard fee is £75 for a 50-minute session. Longer sessions can be arranged by request and are pro-rated.
Fees are reviewed annually.
I know that not everyone can afford it, so I offer a couple of concession slots – email me to find out.
What’s the time commitment?
Ideally we will meet weekly on the same day and at the same time each week.
The number of sessions needed is very individual and can be agreed in the initial session. I offer both short-term and long-term counselling depending on your needs. For short-term counselling I suggest a minimum length of 6 sessions. This can always be reviewed and extended as needed.
While short-term counselling can be effective for some people, if you want to dive deeper to unravel the root causes of the recurring patterns in your life, it can be more beneficial to work in an open-ended format. It means you come every week as long as you need. This also helps to establish trust in our therapeutic relationship which allows deeper transformations to occur.
Where does it happen?
All sessions are currently held online via Zoom. Online therapy offers the convenience of being in the comfort of your home and is just as effective as meeting in person. You will need to be in a private space where you don’t worry about being overheard. Once we have agreed on the date and time, I will share a recurring link for you to join the sessions.
What if I can’t make a session?
Once session time is arranged, that time will be yours and will not be used to see other clients. On occasion it may be possible to rearrange the session for a different day or time, subject to availability. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice are charged in full, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
What’s a typical session like?
There isn’t a “typical” session as such. You’re free to bring whatever issues you want to explore. There will be times when I’m more engaged and active, taking you deeper into inquiry or guiding you through a process. There will be other times when I’m more quiet, just holding you as you share and connect with your feelings. I will often encourage you to pause and feel, to notice the deeper layers underneath the story. I follow my intuition to adapt my approach to what I feel is most beneficial to you in each moment.
Is it confidential?
Absolutely. Confidentiality is of the utmost importance and I am committed to ensuring that your information is secure and strictly confidential. I comply with the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018 (GDPR). More detailed information is provided in my Client Contract.
